The beginning of June marks the end of the school year and the beginning of summer. Lockers are cleared out, books are closed, and boxes line the hallways of dorms. Even though “regular” students will disperse for the summer, the Choate campus will still be alive with activity. Choate offers an array of summer programs, including summer abroad opportunities for high school students, and arts and athletic programs open to students of all ages.

May has been an exciting month for music on Choate’s campus. Senior recitals have been taking place for the past two weeks and more are still to come. Most of the performing seniors are members of the Arts Concentration Program, which requires that seniors perform either a full solo recital or half of a recital, shared with another performer.
Seniors have been preparing for their culminating performances for more than a year. Mr. Ralph Valentine, head of the Music Section of the Arts Concentration Program, said, “I’m confident that the recitals will be well-prepared by the performers and well-attended by family and friends.” Mr. Ventre was also confident that all the seniors would do an excellent job in their recitals.

Choate’s West Side Story production premiered this Thursday, May 27. Since the cast began working on the production at the end of winter term, there have been a number of changes in the leadership roles in the performance; nevertheless, according to the musical’s current director Tracy Ginder-Delventhal, “It’s going to be great!”
