Since their formative, middle school years, seniors Jared Bailey ’06, Kevin Walker ’06, and Akeem Frett-Evans ’06 have been members of their own musical ensemble.Upon coming to Choate freshman year, the group evolved into the Prep Skool Ganstaz. The group members include founders Jared and Kevin as well as new addition, Chijioge Nwogu ’06.

Jared Bailey, the group’s producer, has known for a while that he wants to go into the field of music as a profession. According to Jared, he enjoys making the songs more complex and helping to see the process of making music with his dynamic talents and beats.

The group has been planning to make a new album, ‘The First Ammendment,” for a long time. Recently the Gangstaz decided to direct their profits to the AIDS cause. The entire process of writing, recording, performing, and selling songs from their new album and donating the proceeds to the fight against AIDS comprises the senior projects of all three members.

“We all feel that AIDS is something that is greater than all of us, and we feel that it is our responsibility to educate people about it,” said Jared. Starting May 21st and continuing until May 26th, the Gangstaz will be holding AIDS week on campus.

On May 26th, the final day of AIDS week, the Gangstaz will wrap up their project with a benefit performance in the Macquire Gymnasium. This is all part of a combined Freaky Friday and Spring Fest, which traditionally occurs on the last Friday of the school year.

The Prep Skool Gangstaz are hoping to raise a lot of money for the cause and are hard at work making their last Choate concert well worth the trip to Upper Campus.
