A masthead editorial in the February 6th issue of The News (“An Assessment of the College Process,” online at http://thenews.choate.edu/opinion.shtml) misstated the college admissions experience of the Choate College Counseling staff. The editorial incorrectly stated, “None of the current counselors have significant experience in college admissions, other than Mr. Olins’ four years as an officer at Tufts.” The News regrets the error. Here is the Office’s experience in counseling at the undergraduate level:•Interim Director Terri Burditt spent 11 years at Trinity College, Denison University, and Hobart and William Smith College. •David Olins, the Senior Associate Director, spent four years at Tufts and two at the University of Massachusetts Lowell. •Tina Grant, new this year, was Director or Dean of Admissions at Emmanuel College, in Boston, MA, for 3 years; Cape Cod Community College, in West Barnstable, MA, for four years; and Westbrook College (now part of the University of New England), in Portland, ME, for three years. •Matt Proto, new part time to the Office this year, has five years of experience in the Yale University Admissions Office. He worked there during both his time as a student and for two years immediately after his 2001 graduation.•Linda Shultz has 12 years of experience, first at Newberry College, in Newberry, SC, and then at Atlanta’s Oglethorpe University. The intent of the editorial was to provide a thoughtful critique of the state of the College Office, which has had notable personnel changes in recent years. We also focused on the two searches for a new director of the office. We regret that some readers may have misconstrued the editorial as a personal attack on the current team of counselors. We apologize if the piece was read in that fashion. The News remains firmly committed to the principles embodied in our Mission Statement.
