Auditions Underway for Student Directed Scenes

By Mike Bonassar ‘06

Throughout the fall and during this winter term, 13 Choate students have been working hard to learn the ins- and- outs of what it takes to be a director. In Choate’s one and only directing class, taught by Drama faculty member Tracy Ginder-Delventhal, they studied everything a director is responsible for, ranging from text analysis to lighting to casting. A few students, such as Katie Hartsoe ’06, took the class because of their strong connection to Tracy. Some, such as Mick Alpert ’06, took it because of friends who were in it previously and gave it good reviews. Several, such as Kevin Walker ’06, are striving to make it big in Hollywood someday and see this as their starting point. Others, such as Meredith Mosbacher ’07, are in the class because they were in Directed Scenes previously and wanted to be the ones to direct Directed Scenes. Then there was Zach Sheldon ‘07, who left halfway through the class to go to France and eat pastries.

Directed Scenes is the final piece to the directing class puzzle. In a short span of two months, each student of the class will direct a ten-minute scene of their choice, featuring student volunteers that the directors cast last Tuesday and Wednesday nights. The final production of these will occur the nights of January 30th and 31st. They will provide a culmination of all the directors have studied and learned. Other directors include Michael Bonassar’06, Alex Kveton ’06, Charlotte Madere ’07, Madeline Ruskin ’06, Jacqueline Salamack ’06, Lisa Viccione ’07, Liz Walbridge ’07, Kevin Walker ’06, and Tom Williamson ’07. Some scenes will be funny, others dramatic, but no matter what, they will most certainly be entertaining.
