Form: 5th
Hometown: Montreal, Quebec
Sport: Squash
Recent Accomplishments: Playing in his first varsity match at Choate, Julian defeated Exeter’s number one player 3-2 in front of a great Choate crowd. Even though the team lost, Julian stepped up and gave Choate one of its two points.
Squash Experience: In the U-17 league, Julian was ranked 7th among Canadian players. Recently, Julian moved up an age category in the national Canadian squash rankings. Now, he is ranked 22nd in the Men’s Provincial League, which includes all professional and college players.
Off-season Training: “I try to play the whole year,” said Julian, who is also a member of the Varsity Football team. “Because of Football in the fall, I always need to work out in the summer in order to gain some weight,” added Julian. “But, I just run and play quash in the weekends to recover my footwork.”
Most Memorable Moment: “When I was in the US National Championship, I had to play four matches in the same day. Three of the four went to five games, but I still managed to win all four of them.” Julian has been playing in the US championship for the past two years and the Canadian Championships for the past five years. He also played in Provincial and National level.
Pre-Game Routine: “I do the classic warm-up,” said Julian. “I do dynamic stretches, run in the treadmill, and usually hit some balls for five minutes to get warmed-up.”
Season Goals: “I don’t want to lose more than one match this season.” Julian will face top players around New England this season, as he is Choate’s number one player. Choate’s top of the ladder has immensely improved with the addition of Julian. Co-Captain, Mike Koh ’08 and Tucker Bryan ’08 are returning to their two and three sports, while Julian will take on the great challenge of playing one. “I also want to make to at least the semifinals of the New England Tournament,” he added.
