The Boar Report

Water Polo traveled to Loomis Chaffee on Wednesday the 31st to face a strong pelican team. Johnny Whitney ’08, who had been unable to practice due to an illness showed his skills scoring six out of the eight Choate goals. However, this wasn’t enough, and Loomis won a close game 9-8. Later on that week on Saturday the 3rd, Choate met the number two-ranked Deerfield at home. With Deerfield acting early, Choate came back and beat the Big Green 10-7. Being the final game of the regular season, Choate’s record is 8-6, with the New England championships coming up next week.

Volleyball ventured south to Greenwich on the 31st to face Greenwich Academy. Though being down 27-24 at one point, Choate came back strong and won that game 32-30. The rest of the match was all Choate, with scores of 32-30, 30-20, and 30-17. On Saturday the 3rd, the Boars had another away game, and traveled to Hotchkiss. Facing a tough Hotchkiss squad, the girls played their hearts out. The team was unable to break Hotchkiss’s defense, and went down 0-3.

Girls Soccer played Kent at home on the 31st. Though Kent managed to score first capitalizing on a one on one, Choate would not give up. With a good passing game, Choate tied the score late in the first half, which motivated them for the second half where they scored the winning goal. Choate’s 2-1 victory over Kent will made the girls hungry for another win against Hopkins on Saturday. Choate breezed by the local Hopkins team 5-2. This leaves the girls with an 8-6-1 record.

Boys Soccer traveled up to Taft on Wednesday the 31st looking for its fourth win of the season. The boys playing well won the game 4-1. The boys next faced Avon Old Farms at home on Saturday the 3rd. Avon, the number two team in New England, played a very well possessed game, while hitting the goal posts three times. Eventually, Avon’s strong offense broke through Choate’s defense. Avon scored a goal in the last minute of the game and went on to win 1-0. The boys now stand with a current 4-10-1 record for the season.

Field Hockey faced Kent at home on the 31st. Choate went on the defeat Kent by the score of 2-1. Next, Greens Farms Academy came up to Choate on the 3rd. The Dragons were unable to keep up with the Boars, and went down 4-1.

On the traditional Sunday game against Lawrenceville, Football won by the score of 48-7. The team worked really well together, and managed to score 28 points in the first half. Evan Jackson ’09 and Mike Ryce ’08 played major roles in Choate’s offense. This left Choate’s record at 4-2-1.
