Campus Hammocks

The Student Council has been working on a proposal for campus hammocks. The council is discussing with Facilities services the possibility of adding three hammocks in these possible locations: Memorial field (near the volleyball net), Squire Stanley lawn, the Great Lawn (behind the PMAC), the area next to the outdoor basketball court (near Esdall), and the base of the hill between the Chapel and Bungalow. If Facilities approves, the Student Council will then show pictures of the desired hammocks, suggest definite locations of the hammocks, and specify how the hammocks will be paid for. Final approval for the hammocks will be granted (or not) at that point.

Fifth Form Internet Hours

Mr. Ford will be bringing up a proposal to extend fifth formers’ internet hours to the administrators and deans before returning to the Student Council with a response.

Choate Daily Grind

The Student Council’s largest project this year is “Choate’s Daily Grind,” Choate’s very own coffee shop that is open during conference periods in the Humanities Rotunda. Opening day was Tuesday, November 13th. Regular, caramel, and French vanilla coffee flavors, as well as wild raspberry tea, are offered at Choate’s Daily Grind, each for the price of a dollar. The Daily Grind is an eco-friendly, charity coffee operation. First, biodegradable “eco-tainers” are used to serve the coffee. The “eco-tainers” are made from corn-based, not oil-based plastics. Additionally, to reduce the waste of one time use cups, if you bring your own mug three times, you get a free beverage of your choice! All proceeds from the “Daily Grind” will go to an initiative started by students Bowen Kelley, Miles Cozart, and Andrew Kim. The project involves raising money to re-build a well for a village of about 1,000 people in Niger. The U.S. Embassy is spearheading this effort, ensuring its reliability.
