On the Field With... John Beek '08

By Kat Selberg ’10

News Reporter

Hometown: Washington, D.C.

Position on Team: Varsity Lacrosse captain and Midfield.

Lacrosse Experience: Jon has been playing lacrosse for most of his life. “Where I am from, instead of playing baseball as a kid, we were twiddling lacrosse sticks.”

Most Memorable Moment: In sophomore year, Jon faced the pressure of a Deerfield game staged at Choate. The game was intense, going into overtime. As Choate scored the winning goal; the crowd stormed the field, leaving Jon with an everlasting, victorious memory.

The Off-Seasons: Jon stays busy all year long. His fall season was taken up with his duties as a soccer captain. In the winter, he works out in TAC, a weightlifting class

This Season’s Goals: This season, Jon wants to focus on turning Choate lacrosse into a respected institution. Determined to appear as a formidable opponent, he wants “to really turn some heads in New England.” He plans to create a team worthy of competing with any in the country.

The Future: Next year, Jon will be playing at his new alma mater, Middlebury. He plans to play lacrosse and “walk onto the soccer team.” Apart from that, his plans are hazy. He hopes to finish his time at Choate on a high note and enjoy his years of college.

Pre-Game Preperation: Jon likes to listen to his iPod in the locker room before each game to help him focus. For the rest of his ritual, Jon admits to letting “Christian Duffy make sweet eye black designs. My face is his canvas.”
