On Friday, May 23rd, Lilith and the Kaprophones performed in front of an enthusiastic crowd from 7:30 to 8:30 pm in the PMAC Gallery. Starting the performance with some pieces such as “Kaprophones Tag” and “Wake Me Up (Before You Go-Go),” the singers instantly grabbed the attention of the audience, an estimated 60 people. As the evening continued, the entertainers became increasingly lively: their grins became larger, and their joy seemed to fill the entire room with a vibrant energy. Their choreographed dances and delightful facial expressions invoked wild laughter from the spectators. Daniel Selinger ’09, the president of the Kaps commented, “As far as the performance went I couldn’t be more proud of the Kaps. It’s really hard to be able to keep track of all the parts and choreography for all 10 songs we sang, but the concert went off without a hitch.” Lin Georgis ’09, one of the members of Lilith, agreed: “I think it went really great.” She said that both of the group leaders “were pleased and happy with the amount of people that showed up.” For one of the songs performed, Mary Foster ’10 and Ellie Foster ’08 arranged a “Girl Medley” themselves, putting it together lyrics from many famous tunes, such as “Hit Me Baby One More Time” by Britney Spears, “Beautiful” by Christina Aguilera, “Barbie Girl” by Aqua, and “Fergalicious” by Fergie. Foster ’08 said the song was “something that could display our musical abilities, but more importantly, our sense of humor.” The song was a favorite for both Georgis ’09 and Tessa Sacramone ’08.
Selinger ’09 said his favorite song his group sings is “I Really Love You.” “When we start the song it always seems a little awkward, and people tend to be a bit confused at first, but once Dave Lim breaks out in that trademark dance and we all join in, we can feel the audience having fun with us.”
Most of the audience backed up this assertion. “The Kaps always give energetic performances,” said David Woo ’09. Sarah Smith ’11 was not as impressed. “It was okay,” she replied when asked to describe her reaction to the performance. “The Kaps were great. They were funny and entertaining.”
It was evident from the performers’ demeanors that they genuinely cared about one another. Georgis ’09 described how the girls always rehearse together with great food and their boyfriends. “I could not think of a better way to spend my Wednesday and Sunday nights,” said Sacramone ’08. “Whether we’re working hard at the music or just sitting around talking about life, we always seem to find enjoyment in the rehearsals and love being in each other’s company.” Joe Entenmann ’11, the only freshman of the Kaprophones, said he had a similar relationship with his fellow Kaps: “It’s really almost like we’re brothers. We’re closer now than we were when I started.” “We have fun together, no matter how dead our voices are or how much we want to go take a nap, and I think that comes across on stage,” said Mike Noel ’09, a member of the Kaps. “Performing is amazing for every smile and laugh and cheer in the audience, but I care more about just being able to relax. When I sing, I can forget about tests and due dates and responsibilities and just sink into the music and smile.” Lilith will sell their latest CD, “7 O’Clock Shift” for $10 during the next few weeks. The Kaprophones’ CD will not be for sale until 2009.
