4th College Counselor Plans to Leave Office

By Kristen Raddatz ’09

News Reporter

Last week Ms. Linda Schulz’s decision to leave her position as an officer in the Choate College Counseling Office was announced officially. Schulz is one of four counselors departing from Choate at the end of the year, for various reasons.

Her plans were announced in a formal email from Ms. Tina Grant, the new Director of College Counseling. Schulz has accepted the position as Director of College Counseling at a day school in South Carolina. This relocation allows her to be closer to her family and elderly parents.

The college office has found a replacement for Schulz, in the form of Ms. Shari M. Sutton. Sutton comes to Choate from Vanderbilt University, where she was a Senior Assistant Director of Admissions. She has also worked in Admissions at Indiana University, her alma mater, where she received a bachelor’s degree in education. She will be taking over Schulz’s former advisees.

Grant describes Sutton as, “a professional who is both highly experienced and genuinely committed to working with teenagers” as well as “enthusiastic and approachable”.

Sutton will be available to meet with her advisees the last week in June on campus, after which she will be in touch with them in August. And like all members of the counseling staff, students can reach her anytime over the summer by e-mail.
