Positions: Pitcher and Outfielder The Early Years: Matt began playing baseball as soon as he could walk. Where he grew up, Little League was all the rage among the growing sportsmen. Matt had a natural talent from the start: “There are videos of me when I was little, like just walking, with a wiffle ball bat, and my dad underhanding a plastic ball to me, and me hitting it back and hitting him.” Having played all his life, Matt managed to make Varsity his freshman year at Choate.
Memorable Moment: This past summer, Matt’s team played a team filled with players headed to Division I schools on scholarships. Although his team lost, Matt describes it as the best game he ever pitched, managing a shutout for seven innings.
Warm-ups and Post-game: The night before a game, Matt tries to visualize his pitches for the following day: “I think through how I want to approach hitters, how I want to pitch, what pitches I want to use, and what kind of counts, and how I want to set up my pitches.” After games, Matt is always a good sportsman. He loves a good win, but never lets any setbacks or losses weigh him down.
Offseason: In the winter, Matt plays Varsity Basketball, but in the summer, it’s back to baseball. He plays for an AAU team that competes in tournaments all along the East Coast. Next Year: Matt’s staying close to home as he heads to Trinity in Hartford next year.
