The Boys crew team traveled to Lake Quonnipaug to host South Kent and Pomfret in an important dual match to open their season. Choate dominated in all four of the races, easily dispatching their respective opponents. Choate teams were so much better than the competition that the Boys fourth boat almost finished with a better time than the Pomfret first boat, finishing just two seconds behind the top Pomfret boat. Due to their success Choate not only maintained control of the Centennial Cup, which is awarded to the better team between Pomfret and Choate, but also won the Bruce Small/Ben Sylvester Oar, a similar prize but maintaining to Choate and South Kent.
Although the team was confident heading into the race, Lizzie Needham ’09, varsity coxswain, was happy at the success. “We had beaten these teams in the past, but with every season comes an important first race. Its nice to win and its nice to have that first win under out belt.” The team hopes to keep up its momentum against Groton this Saturday
