Recently, Mr. Ford had noted to the student council that he wants Choaties to form a student pep squad that promote school spirit and support athletic games. The main “job” of this squad would be to organize spirit events throughout the whole year, namely pep rallies and game cheers that would really “bring the school together” as Jin Ha ’08, president of the student council, said. Emails will be sent to each form soon, in search for enthusiasts who are interested to join this new squad.
Tuck Shop
Aramark, the food provider for Choate, is opening up for comments and suggestions about the tuck shop in the student activities center. The food providers are willing to make alterations in their menu and appearance at the tuck shop to further popularize and to attract more students to spend there. On this note, the student council has already taken action and asked various council members to converse with friends on what new menu and appearance of the tuck shop would they prefer. This information would then be utilized by David Lam ’09 and David Lim ’09 when they actually consult Aramark in a meeting discussing these changes in the near future.
Daily Grind
Operating on conference periods on Tuesdays and Fridays, the Daily grind is doing very well so far but according to student council president Jin Ha ’08, they need to “rev up the excitement and keep people coming.” Jin Ha also announced that the Daily Grind has already gotten the approval from Mr. Cook and Mr. White, to have student performances in the Humanities Rotunda so that there would be entertainment to go along with the drinks. Next week, either the Maiyeroes or the Winter Cabaret will be performing. Another thing going on with the Daily Grind is that they would start a new ad campaign; instead of posters that included facts about the shop, they would have funny, exciting photos of the shop in action. Last of all, express passes for the Daily Grind may be offered. Because the complaints about the waiting time in line, the Daily Grind are planning on selling express passes so that students could buy the passes beforehand and skip the traffic in the conference periods. The Daily Grind is hoping that his new idea will help to reduce the length of the line and the waiting time.
Notice:
The 6th form student council election is approaching. Sixth formers will nominate twelve students as potential candidates before election day. “This will keep us busy for a few weeks” said Jin Ha ’08.
