By Rebecca Marber ’09

News Reporter

The Daily Grind

The Student Council held the opening meeting of the winter term on Thursday, December 29th. In continuation of the Fall Term, the topics discussed related to the themes of conservation and student life. The Student Council is particularly focusing on the conference period coffee shop, also known as “The Daily Grind”. Since the kick-off of “The Daily Grind” in the Fall, the Student Council has been making at each conference period between $50- $100, all of which is being donated to the construction of a well in Niger. The challenge now is keeping this success consistent by maintaining student interest.

Hammocks

Another undertaking the Student Council has agreed upon is to put up several hammocks around campus in time for the spring. The exact locations of these hammocks have not been finally chosen; however, the Student Council agrees that at least one of them will be hung on Memorial Field.

Extended Curfew for Free Skate

According to fifth form Student Council representative David Lam ’09, “The Student Council is working on activities for each form to develop unity within the students.” Lam is personally working on a Saturday night free skate, of which entails an extended curfew, for the junior class. Lam is also trying to keep the internet to stay on for an additional half hour. Within the next few meetings, the Student Council is going to continue to brainstorm for other opportunities to bring together the student body.
