The News interviewed several well-known seniors as to what they would change about their Choate experiences. This what they had to say:
Val Atwood
Choate is really a great place, and it is a hard task to come up with something I would change. I think that students would be much more effective, alert, happier, and ready to really learn if all classes started at 9:00am or even 8:30 instead of 8:00. With just one more hour of sleep, I think that students here would feel a lot better overall and the general mood on campus would be better
Drew Ruben
The only things I would want to change about Choate are superficial—soda in the dining hall, cell phone rules, and little things like that. It’s been a great four years. The truth is that I wouldn’t want to change any one thing about Choate; I would much rather change a few things about how I chose to spend my time here. I think most seniors feel the same way
Tyren Bynum
I would change the internet hours. Since this is the last year for seniors, the internet should be extended. In college, students do not have restricted internet access. At least in the spring I think there should be no restrictions on seniors’ internet hours.

It seems that with the construction of the new dorm on campus that the administration is making a move in favor of large dorms. I think this is a mistake. Though my freshmen year in Memorial was amazing, the camaraderie of small dorms is one of the most important elements of Choate life. Only in a small dorm do you truly get to know everyone; every student helps to define the dorm atmosphere.
Janelle Fouche
I would change the fact that we are getting rid of some of our smaller dorms to get these huge dorms. Some of us like living in small dorms, and I feel as if having both big and small dorms is one of the great living aspects of Choate. Some people don’t like living in big dorms, and I personally think we should put our big endowment money towards renovating some of our old dorms, especially the small senior homes, instead of adding huge dorms.
Brit’nee Haskins
I personally wished that Choaties were not as stressed so much of their time here. There is never a day when someone is not stressed. I feel as though stress has hindered a lot of people from participating in activities or continuing a hobby, but that stress does make Choate what it is.
Mathilde Williams
I have had a fantastic two years at this school. It was the best decision I have ever made. The things I would change, however, would be MY experience here- not the school itself. The environment here is stressful, but I love every minute of it. As much as we complain, I know that everyone loves their “crazy” schedules and late nights. We all take pleasure in how hard we work. What I have learned is that that hard work truly pays off. Unlike many people, I am sure; I wouldn’t change the amount of homework or class time. I appreciate every minute of what I have done here, and I know that it has contributed to who I am today and who I will be in the future.
