The Boar Report

By Rohan Hong ‘09

Girls Varsity Swimming & Diving had its first loss this season last week, suffering a bitter loss to The Hopkins School on Wednesday, February 7. Regrettably for the Dolphins, the lane numbers of Caroline Wilson ’09 and Julia Fram ’08 were swapped in the entry cards, and the referee disqualified them after they won the 200 IM. Although the Dolphins finished the meet with many impressive wins, the team could not recover from the disqualifications.

After the tough loss against Deerfield Academy last week, Boys Varsity Swimming & Diving brought home two victories against Hopkins and Kingswood-Oxford this week. Ray Li’ 08 and Patrick Li’ 10 won double events, leading the team to a victory on Wednesday, February 7.

Girls Varsity Basketball squad battled against Berkshire on Wednesday, February 7, adding another victory in the season. Despite a long ride to Massachusetts, the team dominated the opponent, with the final score of 40-22. Kat Luby ’08 contributed to the Wild Boars performance with eleven points.

Boys Varsity Squash dropped their fifth match against Taft, which ended the team’s five-game winning streak. None of the Wild Boars could defeat the Taft players, and the result was 0-7 favoring the Rhinos. The team, however, performed tremendously in National H.S. Team Championships on Saturday, February 10, finishing at an impressive 10th place.

Girls Varsity Squash clinched the Founders League title last week, boasting the team’s strength and consistency. The team brought home two victories against Taft and Hotchkiss even though both games were scheduled on the same afternoon at two different locations. The Wild Boars defeated both teams 6-1, and as a result, clinched a predicted Founders title.

It was another ordinary week for Varsity Wrestling, after suffering defeats from four different schools: Loomis Chaffee, Noble and Greenough, Tabor, and Canterbury. Because of the unfilled weight classes at 103 lb, 210 lb, and 275 lb, the Wild Boars have to give opponents 18 points in forfeits during every meet. In addition, the team’s starting lineup is consisted of many first year wrestlers. It is true, however, that the number of wrestlers on the team is growing. Since the unoccupied weight classes are not counted against the squad during the post-season tournaments, the Wild Boars are confident to bring home victories by their better wrestlers.
