By Rohan Hong ‘09

News Staff Reporter

Form: 6th

Hometown: Ho Ho Kus, NJ

Position: Goalie

Recent Accomplishments: Rob, the goalie for the Choate Varsity Hockey team, tries his best to contribute to the team’s defense and lead them to victory. As a goalie, he feels his quickness and positioning are his best attributes. His effort plays a huge factor in the team’s great record this year so far.

Future Goal or Aspiration: For this season, he aspires to make the New England Playoffs, and win the championship. He aspires to play consistently well in each game he appears in. As a more long-term goal, he hopes to contribute to his college team’s success.

Off-Season Training: In the off-season, Rob usually attends goalie camps, works with a goalie coach, participates in tournaments, and tries to be on the ice as much as he can. He also lifts weights to stay in shape.

Most Unforgettable Moment: “Going to the national U-16 in Chicago last year was my first experience playing in the national competition,” he says. Rob’s first prep hockey start last year was a very unforgettable moment for him. In his debut, he made 36 saves in a 4-2 win against Canterbury.

Pre-game Rituals: Like many other players, he listens to music in order to focus before the game. In addition, he makes sure he puts on his equipment in the same order each time.

Favorite Aspect of Ice Hockey: “Hockey is a very fast and technical game that requires a great deal of precision. That’s what makes it so interesting to watch and fun to play,” says Rob, “My teammates are great players. We have a lot of fun together whether on or off the ice.” His teammates are the next reason why he enjoys playing ice hockey. He also mentioned that, for his position, the mental aspect of the game is very important, and it adds another element to the game.
