Dec 13 -- The school-wide schedule for Choate Rosemary Hall received a complete overhaul, adopting the Burns Schedule Proposal, thus evolving into something similar to our current schedule. Among the proposed plans, only four were announced as official, including the Registrar’s Schedule Proposal, the Farrell-Gallagher Schedule Proposal, the McRae Schedule Proposal, and the Burns Schedule Proposal. The Burns schedule received the most votes in a faculty meeting and was adopted by the school.



25 Years Ago

Dec 11 -- The beginning of a peer counseling program marked the birth of The Peer Group. The Counseling Team at Choate, led by Dr. David Connell, felt that students might be more comfortable talking to a peer, rather than to an adult, about their issues. The Peer Group consisted of a group of seniors who received training that enabled them to help fellow peers with their problems.



50 Years Ago

Dec 8 -- Dr. Franz J. Polgar came to Choate to give a demonstration of hypnotism, mind-reading, memory, and post-hypnotic suggestion. Starting with a demonstration of memory and mind-reading, he soon moved on to hypnotism. Several students were selected from the audience to perform a series of amusing feats, both during and after their hypnotism. After the lecture, many members of the audience purchased Dr. Polgar’s book about hypnosis.
