The Boar Report

By Rohan Hong ‘09

News Reporter
It’s been a tough two weeks for Boys Varsity Soccer, which suffered defeats at the hands of Kingswood-Oxford and Avon Old Farms. The team had looked for a victory against Avon after defeating Taft 2-1, with the game-winning goal being scored by Dae Ro John Lee’07 with a minute left in the game. Avon, however, proved to be too much competition for the team, beating the Wild Boars 2-0. Avon managed to score twice despite Choate strong defense and sharp passes. However, Choate showed a strong offense in its games against K-O and Taft. Jae Nam ’07 and Jon Beek ’08 also managed to score despite the skill of the two opponents.

The effort of Girls Varsity Soccer finally paid off as they defeated Suffield 7-0, Kent 1-0, and Hopkins 2-0. Good passing sequences and solid defense helped their forwards make good shots in and out of the box. Choate dominated these strong rivals, possessing the ball for most of the game.

Varsity Field Hockey has torn up the competition recently, defeating Ms. Porters School 5-0, Kent School 6-0, and Greens Farms Academy 3-0. The team boasted a strong offense and an excellent defense while shutting out all three teams. If the team can win one more game, it will increase its record to 10-4, fulfilling its goal to surpass last season’s record of 9-7.

Last week for Varsity Water Polo proved difficult as the team suffered defeats from both Loomis Chaffee and Deerfield. This came as sad news after the team had defeated Williston Northampton 20-3 prior to playing these schools. Although several players could not play due to injury, the team performed tremendously against Williston, and competed admirably in defeat against its rivals, losing by 15-18 to Loomis and 11-12 to Deerfield. The Water Polo team will look to avenge its loss this weekend agaisnt the Doors, only this time, playing at home.

Varsity Volleyball had a bittersweet week, losing to Miss Porter’s School, rebounding with an impressive victory over Northfield Mt. Hermon School on Parent’s Weekend 3-2, and then suffering a 0-3 loss against Hotchkiss.
