Recent Accomplishments: Matt Ryan, a post-graduate, arrived for preseason anxious to put his best foot forward for the Boy’s Varsity soccer team. So far this season, Ryan has been key to the team’s success, contributing to an abundance of offensive chances. Ryan’s ability to cut through opposing team defenses opens up the game for other varsity players, creating numerous scoring chances. This season, Matt has found back of the net 3 times and has contributed on multiple other scores.
Most Memorable Moment: Prior to Choate, Ryan played for Gonzaga High School in his hometown. Last season’s playoffs were the most memorable moments of his career in the sport. During the postseason stretch, Matt’s playmaking ability allowed his team to make it to the championship game, where they lost in overtime. The highlight of his postseason appearance was his 3 goals in 2 games.
Off-season: During the summer months, Matt is a counselor/coach at a soccer camp for youngsters between the ages of 4 and 8. Also during the summer, Matt plays copious amounts of “pick-up soccer with my friends, whether it be indoor, on turf, or in my backyard.” To train for the regular season, Matt runs every day to stay in shape.
Future Aspirations: As the soccer season nears its end, Matt is focused on achieving his next goal, “to play Division I soccer. Ever since I was little I had always wanted to play at that level.”
Season Goals: Ryan’s goals for the season consisted of becoming a better overall player, as well as making plays for his teammates. It is evident from his performance that Matt has been able to achieve his goals
Pre-game Rituals: On game day, one can find Matt isolated from the team, listening to his iPod. “This allows me to clear my mind, and focus on the game.”
