He has had seven crossword puzzles published and receives $135 per puzzle. He specializes in non-themed puzzles. Will Shortz, the crossword puzzle editor for the Times, said, “I’m looking for fresh, colorful, juicy vocabulary and phrases that are used in the language, but not in the dictionary. David is a very talented puzzle maker and I love his vocabulary.”

State Sues Over Loose Federal Milage Requirements

Connecticut and nine other states recently sued the Federal Government in an attempt to force the Bush administration to tighten the gas mileage requirement for sport utility vehicles and pickup trucks. They say that the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration did not thoroughly analyze the environmental importance of fuel economy regulations and the impact of gasoline consumption on climate change. “The proposed upgrade in fuel economy standards is a complete sham and a gift to the auto industry,” said Connecticut Attorney General Richard Blumenthal. He also said that the new regulations allow larger vehicles with greater weight and less fuel economy to be built.
