Through April 22, Choate students have the opportunity to enjoy fine works of art crafted from three teachers from Choate’s very own art department.
Bob Mellon, Reginald Bradford, and Jane Gustin have combined their artistic skills to produce an impressive exhibit, which boasts linocuts, monoprints, video segments, sculpture, and oil paintings.
“The exhibit is a great chance for us students to see how talented members of our arts faculty truly are,” stated Alliy Drago ’08. “The paintings in the gallery are especially interesting,” she added.
Gustin, the author of the paintings on the theatre-side of the arts center particularly enjoys Mr. Bradford’s chair sculptures. “They are very clever,” she said. However, she finds her best work to be a recent still-life painting illustrating lemons on a silver plate.
Mr. Mellon, head of the Video and Photography Department at Choate contributed to the exhibit with a video on “patience assessment for ski patrollers”. Although it is his only work in the exhibit, he still had much to say about the artwork. “My colleagues inspire me because they are able to find the time to keep working as artists while maintaining a full time teaching load at a busy place like Choate with several demands placed on their time.”
If you wish to check out the work of the talented arts faculty, visit the PMAC anytime through April, between the hours of 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
