By Suril Kantaria ‘09

News Staff Reporter
February 15th, Jeffrey Rosen ’07 was elected School President, succeeding outgoing President, Jeffrey Berry ’06. Mark Dee ‘07 will be succeeding Mike Morrill ’06 as School Vice President.

Choate students also voted for their Student Council representatives last Wednesday. The candidates had given speeches to their respective forms earlier in the day.

Ballot boxes were located in the Hill House Dining Hall, and voting was open during lunch and dinner on Election Days. Election results were released that Wednesday night as the candidates nervously awaited their electoral hopes.

Jeff Rosen commented on his new responsibilities: “I’m grateful for everyone’s support and I’m psyched to start leading the school forward!” Mark Dee responded with a smile when asked how he felt on his election.

For the rising sixth form class representatives, Steve Kwizera ’07 was elected as class president, and Frank Persico ’07, Zach Remsen ’07, and Janelle Fouche ’07 were elected class representatives.

Asked how he felt, Steve responded, “I just want to say thank you to the Class of 2007 for electing me as the class president. I am ready to represent you with all my power and ability.” He continued, “I am very excited about the near future, and with me as class president, anything is possible. I’m the man for the job and together we’ll do very beautiful things. Our time has finally come baby; we are going to be everywhere. We’re going to set a new pace.”

The rising fifth and fourth form are given three representatives each, and the rising sixth form is given four spots, plus the office of School President and Vice President.

As for the rising fifth form, Jin Ha ’08 was reelected as their class president, with Learah Lockhart ’08 and Alex Hillbrand ’08 chosen by their peers as class representatives.

When asked to say a few words Jin replied, “I am very grateful and honored that my class chose me to represent our form once more, and I thank everyone deeply for allowing me to have such an amazing experience. I am definitely looking forward to and ready to dive into this upcoming time in office with more ideas and a better understanding of what’s up with Choate and our Class of 2008. As corny as it may sound, I see our class as the Titanic that never sunk.”

In the rising fourth form, Rohan Hong ’09 was elected class presidents, and Alex Klaris ’09 and Lara Kleinschmidt ’09 were elected as class representatives.
