Former State Senator Has Mob ConnectionsFederal prosecutors are accusing former Sen. Ernest Newton of helping a notorious mobster. Newton allegedly assisted the mobster by preventing police raids on his establishments and attempting to arrange meetings with officials that were beneficial to his businesses. Authorities say the man was armed with a gun and robbed Martinez in New London. After the robbery, Martinez got in his car, sped after the felon, and ran him over.Martinez was arrested after giving officials his Social Security Number and date of birth. Martinez will be returned to Connecticut so he can be put on trial.
