Former State Senator Has Mob ConnectionsFederal prosecutors are accusing former Sen. Ernest Newton of helping a notorious mobster. Newton allegedly assisted the mobster by preventing police raids on his establishments and attempting to arrange meetings with officials that were beneficial to his businesses. Newton has already been convicted of receiving bribes and frequently using campaign donations to fund his personal expenditures.- Liz Gribkoff ‘09A Revolution in PowerA new plan in Wallingford is organized to increase power and decrease your power rates. Director Raymond Smith said, “A plan to restart the old Pierce Station could save from $400,000 to $3 million a year.” The Connecticut Municipal Electrical Energy Cooperative and the town council may agree to it.- Liying Zhao ‘09Had a Bad Time in Puerto RicoKevin Martinez of Connecticut was arrested in Puerto Rico for killing a man who supposedly mugged him. Authorities say the man was armed with a gun and robbed Martinez in New London. After the robbery, Martinez got in his car, sped after the felon, and ran him over.Martinez was arrested after giving officials his Social Security Number and date of birth. Martinez will be returned to Connecticut so he can be put on trial. He will not face the death penalty. - Liz Gribkoff ‘09A New PhenomenonA new mathematician is sweeping the town by art: Harold Granucci, 89, a Wallingford resident and former owner of Strand Wayside. Granucci uses four simple tools: a compass, a ruler, a mechanical pen, and his intelligence to create spectacular spiraled drawings.
